It is based on the dominant Le Mans-winning Porsche 962 race cars which Schuppan succesfully raced and owned with his team. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"defaulttext\">At a purchase price of over $1.5 million in 1994 they are among the most expensive vehicles ever sold new.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"defaulttext\">The carbon-tubbed 962CR weighs only 1,050 kg and uses the Porsche 3.3 Litre Type-935 engine borrowed from the IMSA GT Championship 962<st1:personname w:st=\"on\">&#8216;<\/st1:personname>s &#8211; with twin KKK turbochargers and offering up to 600hp.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"defaulttext\">The prototype was constructed from the finest materials available at every stage, and with a claimed top speed of 230 mph and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.5 seconds, it is in every sense of the word a true Supercar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"defaulttext\">Assembly took place at the VSL race and production facilty in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Buckinghamshire<\/st1:city>,  <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">England<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> and funding was provided by Japanese investors who primarily supported Schuppan<st1:personname w:st=\"on\">&#8216;<\/st1:personname>s race team running in the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship. They were specifically created as a tribute to Vern Schuppans victory in a Porsche 962 at <st1:city w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Le   Mans<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> 1983 24 hr race &#8211; the pinnacle of sports car racing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"defaulttext\">An incredibly rare prototype. <span> <\/span>The prototype and launch car<span>  <\/span>Only three more 962 CR<st1:personname w:st=\"on\">&#8216;<\/st1:personname>s built.<span>  <\/span>The only CR to use a &#8220;962 tub&#8221;.<span>   <\/span>$1.5 million when new.<span>  <\/span>Bespoke carbon chassis.
